Had a noon seminar today on a topic directly related to my thesis work: Vijay Kuchroo, from Hahvahd, talking about the development and inter-relatedness of regulatory T-cells and T-helper 17 cells in immune responses.

He didn't really have a whole lot of data to present. And most of it came from papers he's published in the last two or three years. I think of the hour-ten he spoke for, there were a total of a dozen actual data slides, and they weren't overloaded. He spoke simply, clearly, and obviously expected to cause controversy (obviously used to speaking to an audience of MDs, who think that any question they have is important, however minor).

However, he built and told a beautiful story from the data he did present. His experimental model is worlds away from mine, so I only noted salient points. But as the talk went on, those points became ever more important and ever more frequent. His lab has managed to piece together a tale of data and development that made so much sense, and it explained so many of my observations that seemed unconnected.

My boss attended the talk as well, and once she made it back, we both had science-geek love-gush about the material covered. That one talk will help us build our own findings into a much, much better, and stronger, story.

Sometimes, you just get to sit back and go "Wow." Yeah.
