Many years ago, a teacher whose opinion I valued greatly gave me what I felt to be one of the greatest compliments I had ever received. But then he tempered with what I thought was a very odd coda:
"Gray, I don't believe there will ever be a mode of communication able to keep up with how fast you can think. I don't think you'll ever be able to get your thoughts out of your head fast enough.
"Watch yourself."
I understand now that he didn't really mean it as a compliment.
