Dr. Old-n-Cranky,
Just because I, as your diligent teaching assistant, who interacts with the students that you never meet, did not send you one measly piece of class-derived data by 5 PM on Friday, but rather by 11 AM today, you DO NOT get the right to impugn my work ethic, my attention to detail, or my ability to follow instructions. Furthermore, do not criticize me because you are unwilling to do one little piece of math to finally reach your data: you wrote the blasted experiment and know what the students are supposed to do, and you told me to collect the final number, not the raw one.
If you want my help, it is far better to just say "Brian, did you forget to send me this piece of data X? I'd appreciate it if you could do it before noon today." Trying to make me feel guilty and ashamed will not work, for it only makes insults me and makes me angry, which is generally a very, very poor idea. Don't waste my time.
Unpleasantly yours,
Brian
