*clears his throat*

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to mourn the passing of a friend oft overlooked, but never unappreciated. He kept me company for 10 years, held me through snow and rain, lightning and blazing heat, and only once did he throw me for a loop. Together we saw such sights as I cannot begin to describe, of great beauty and great bustle, carrying me faithfully across this vast nation, to and fro, and even into the frozen North. I did as best by him as I could; it is not the lot of a graduate student to be able to properly afford a friend with expensive tastes. Moving to Michigan helped, but in those first four years, the damage was done. His strong constitution could not take the constant annual assault of snow and salt, below freezing temperatures, and all of those things that make the Midwest special.

Farewell Vlad the Volvo, 1990 740 GLE 16V, beast of burden, you shall be missed.

Basically, my transmission died, tonight, at the Red Cross. Poor car's STUCK in reverse. Taking him to the shop tomorrow morning, and probably signing over the papers in the near future. That repair is going to be the same as a good-sized down payment, so, farewell.

*snicker* I've had better birthdays.
