Whee! My first paycheck as a graduate student indicates that I'm being given a very livable stipend. Thanks, boss!
Whee! So the eight year gap between my last class and this one doesn't seem to have blunted my l33t academic skillz any. First part of the first midterm came back at 59/60!
Suck! Two nights this week of 10+ hours of sleep and not being able to get warm says that I'm coming down with something.
Whee! I also got paid my extra, unused vacation time from before I became a graduate slave, so double-paycheck day!
Whee! The boss liked my outline for my first paper, including two experiments that she hadn't thought of, and I've got a green light for it all.
Suck! Not an hour after I realize I'm getting the extra check, the department finance head comes up and tells me that unused-vacation time is paid out at my current rate, and not my previous one. They overpaid me and they'll be docking my next two (three?!?) paychecks to make up the difference. WHAT??!?!?! I'm not even eligible for vacation time as a grad student. There's something extremely fishy in this.
