(do pardon the pun, I couldn't resist)

Saw Troy yesterday afternoon, and for a summer blockbuster, I pretty much enjoyed myself, having paid matinee prices. As a piece of work derived from Homer's Iliad... Bah. The changes were significantly greater than the changes made to the entire LotR trilogy, especially at the end of Troy.

No spoilers, be assured... (as yes, there are changes from the original source)

A few surface thoughts: )

A deeper consideration: )

And a last comment: )

And that's that.

In wholly unrelated news, my building at work was struck by lightning over the weekend. Thankfully, the fridge and the freezer were on a power-strip that tripped in time to save them (I reset the strip on Saturday afternoon, after the worst storms had passed). But the liquid nitrogen deep storage... it's main circuit board is hosed, and I'm filling the tank manually. After puzzling over the bugger all day (called tech support, explained the situation, and they said "We'll be there... tomorrow. Until then..."). What a lovely Monday.
