Verily, I am going to much enjoy my new apartment. Witness: I signed the lease and obtained the keys last night. I strode back to the car to unload some basics into the apartment, as well as dump a few boxes (so that I might re-use them). I have my arms full with the first load when I hear an interesting bird call that I've not heard before. I look.

Sitting in the naked tree (maple?) on the far side of my building is a hawk. A large hawk. Just hanging out. Then I hear another hawk, off to my right, and lo, in a tree just beyond the next building over, hawk's little brother (I assume, going by size difference) was also calling.

Wow.

And then, on the next load in, the first hawk I'd seen cruised lazily overhead.

Now, I just have to dig out my bird books and figure out which, out of the multitude of raptors that Michigan is home to, the birds were. I want to say redtail, given the size, but I dunno yet.

Wow.
