I really, really, really dislike writing laudatory praises for myself. As when you have to put together a cover letter for a job application, or as in this case, applying for a seminar series (where my attendance is something worth attaching to my CV). The whole "I'm soooo GREAT! Pick me!" shmaltz always leaves me feeling personally disoriented, as if some part of me stepped outside of myself, turned and looked back, saying "Who does this guy think he is? Sheesh!"
However, apparently I'm good at this kind of thing, given how many job interviews I've landed over the years (and how many "Damn, that's a good cover letter/resume!" comments I received from career centers). I'm hoping that this sort of skillful luck holds true now.
