Dear Money Fairies,
I've been trying hard to be a good boy, really I have. I've been socking away a good chunk of change in savings for months now, as I'd been hoping to get many things taken care of before I re-enter grad school. You know, that time when my paycheck goes from "Whee! Dinner's on me!" to "Suck! Suck those ramen noodles!" (although I am thankful that it won't be as bad as in Chi-town, which was closer to "Suck! Boy that air tastes good!"). I'd been hoping first to replace my car (now at 200K+ miles!), then replace the bed (I roll into the middle even by myself), pay for my Boston trip (it's only been 10 years), replace my bike, with hopefully a few other goodies if I could squeeze them in. However, after watching used-car prices for the last month or so, I've come to the simple realization (given my needs and inclinations, which are generally eminently practical and nominally thrifty):
I could get a car, with a not insignificant loan. Or I could get everything else on the list, AND have a sizable chunk of change left over.
Right. Thanks for the help, Money Fairies.
Don't call me, I'll call you.
