Judging by the response from this morning's data presentation, even in it's crudely premature form, I've got a dissertation project.

Now how to frame the damn question. Questions, really.

For those of you for whom it might actually mean something, the hypothesis roughly reads like so:

Helicobacter pylori infection in a mouse model promotes skewing towards a Th17-type immune response to prevent immune clearance, by blocking full development of a functional/clearing Th1-type cytokine response.


Or, a translation, stripping out most of the not-critical and rather-scary specifics:

We've got a bacterial pathogen that has evolved mechanisms to tweak its host's immune system to prevent the host from ever really clearing the bug, causing a lot of grief in the meantime.

The questions are easier to figure out from that statement, anyway.
