In view of all of the excitement starting on Thursday night, it's actually kind of comforting. Yes, Ann Arbor was just inside the western edge of the blackout (Chelsea was just outside the limit, for those who know), and it sounds like the city proper got full power back around 2:30 on Friday afternoon.

Still means that I had to go in on Friday morning and catalog the damage, to see which freezers and incubators were on backup circuits, and, sadly, which were not. We got lucky, all things considered, only our incubators were down, and next-door's were up (cordial relationships between labs make mooching very easy). A quick transfer over and I was finished by the time the boss staggered up the stairs.

My group only lost about two days worth of work (time-sensitive stuff that was due to come off on Friday, mostly), but the lab I mooched from lost a freezer full of autopsy samples. At least two months' worth of irreplaceable material. Fortunate, us? Yup.

And otherwise, back to the grind...
